Sango is a youkai (monster) hunter from the Inu Yasha Anime series. Her name means Coral. She is the strongest female character in the party she travels with. Her family (also youkai hunters; twas a family business) was deceived by an evil being named Naraku. Each of them were slained at the hands of Sango's shy little brother Kohaku when they weren't looking because Naraku took control of Kohaku's body. As Sango realizes this, she dashes toward the deceiver only to be stabbed in the back by her own brother. Next thing, a wave of arrows come and kills Kohaku. Sango and Kohaku were buried in a shallow grave behind Naraku's castle. Sango, being the determined person that she was, crawled out of the grave, bloodied, bruised, and near-death. She vowed that she would avenge her family one day as she travels with a group of other misfits who were hurted by Naraku in one way or another. In a way, she is one of the most realistic anime characters I know.
Her love interest is Miroku-sama! He is my favorite male-character in Inu Yasha... Maybe I will make him a shrine too one day. :)
